Thursday, September 13, 2012 GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Hon. Silveria Jacobs and her delegation, left the island on Wednesday for Montevideo Uruguay, for the UNESCO Director-General with Member States and National Commissions of Latin American and the Caribbean region, on the preparation of the Medium-Term Strategy two-day conference. Incoming Secretary General Marcellia Henry is part of the Ministers delegation traveling to Uruguay.
The conference, which will take place from September 14th – 16th, will be focusing on Sub-regional consultations on the objectives, priorities and actions of the Caribbean and Latin America, and discussion on UNESCO’s cooperation with National Commissions, partners and network.
This includes the remit, terms of reference and Latin American and Caribbean National Commissions’ representation.
St. Maarten’s participation in this and future meetings is essential to strengthen ties and cooperation between countries and territories within the Caribbean and Latin America.
During the two-day conference the Minister and her delegation will have the opportunity to network with regional and Latin members and delegates and have open dialogue on the Program and Budget for 2014-2017.
