Sunday, August 19, 2012 London A two-year-old boy and his 10-year-old sister were critically injured when they were knocked down in an apparent hit-and-run in Leeds.
Raham Saleem and his sister Sabam were hit by a Vauxhall Astra in Brudenell Road in the Hye Park area on Saturday.
Police said Sabam had taken her brother to a shop and they were heading home when they were hit near the Makkah Masjid mosque at about 17:20 BST.
Both are in a critical condition after surgery at Leeds General Infirmary.
Detectives have urged the driver of the silver car to come forward.
Det Supt Paul Taylor said: "We are in the early stages of investigating this incident but have already secured CCTV which detectives are studying, and spoken to witnesses.
"The family of these youngsters are understandably extremely distressed and for their sake we are keen to trace this driver as soon as possible."
He urged anyone with information to contact West Yorkshire Police or Crimestoppers.
