GREAT BAY, St. Maarten (Saturday, August 18, 2012)-The 2nd phase of the Teachers Summit took place yesterday afternoon at the Sonesta Great Bay Resort where many educators from the primary and secondary schools were in attendance, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, and Youth Affairs Silveria Jacobs in her address said she’s been in the teacher’s field for 20 years, and have felt the frustration on things she couldn’t change, policies are made that we have to execute”.

“I thought, the first thing that I would do if I ever got the chance, and when I got the chance I had to follow through on that, was to give people who have to meet with our students on a day to day basis the opportunity to contribute to those decisions”. Meanwhile, during Wednesday’s press briefing Minister Silveria Jacobs said that they’ve put steps in place to have teachers who have been teaching on the island without a bachelor’s degree, the opportunity to obtain it.
