SWIMMING IGUANA

GREAT BAY, St. Maarten (Saturday, August 4, 2012)-Pelican Resident and local Artist Patty Meotti captured these unique pictures of a free swimming Iguana off of Pelican recently. Although Iguanas usually live in trees and scrubs they sometimes travel from place to place by crossing bodies of water. Some Iguanas have been known to swim great distances from island to island. The species captured here, the Green Iguana (Iguana iguana) should not be confused with the Marine Iguana which is endemic to the Galapagos Islands. Marine Iguanas spend most of their time in the ocean where they also eat marine algae informed a release on Friday.
