GREAT BAY, St. Maarten (June 29, 2012)- The Central Committee of Parliament will met in a public session on Thursday at the Parliament building. The purpose of the session was to discuss three (3) agenda points which are a National Alliance faction initiative law to change Book 7A of the Civil Code of a national ordinance eliminating the misuse of labour contracts, a request sent in by the United Peoples party faction requesting the presence of the Minister of Justice Hon. Roland Duncan to provide information to parliament about the situation and current developments at the national prison,
and the crest of the House of Parliament. Minister responsible for Public Health, Social Development and Labor, Cornelius de Weever was at the session when Member of Parliament Louie Laveist spoke about the short term contract. “When an employer employs someone for a particular project, the project can last for 3 months, 6 months, a year etc”.” But at one point in time, the lifespan of the project will come to an end.”
“He questioned what will happen if the company has another project right away to continue the lifespan of the employment of that employee”. “What we are seeking to do with this draft initiative law is to eliminate the improper use of the short term contract”.
