GREAT BAY, St. Maarten ( Thursday, May 17, 2012)-Art of Living St. Maarten and St. Maarten AIDS Foundation are teaming up to mark the 29 anniversary of the world’s largest annual community-based AIDS event ‘Candle lighting memorial’ and to bring to St. Maarten the biggest multicultural peace event on Sunday, May 20.
The event which will be held at the A.C Wathey Cruise and Cargo Facility starts at 6:00pm with the Candle lighting memorial which leads into ‘I Meditate SXM’ a large scale cultural event with the theme ‘Celebrating Humanity’. The meditational aspects of the event will be led by Founder of the Arts of Living Foundation Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a world renowned humanitarian leader, spiritual teacher and ambassador of peace. His vision of a stress-free, violence-free society has united millions of people the world over through service projects and the courses of The Art of Living. Sri Sri will lead the meditational aspect of ‘I meditate SXM’ via live feed from an ashram Germany. Guest Speakers will include Prime Minister Sarah Wescot Williams and Minister of Health Cornelius De Weever.

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten (Thursday, May 17, 2012)– The Central Committee of Parliament will meet in a public session on May 21 to discuss correspondence from the Corporate Governance Council (CGC), Financial Supervision and the Parliament of Latin America Parlatino.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday afternoon at 2.00 pm in the General Assembly Chamber of the House of Parliament at Wilhelmina Straat #2.1 in Philipsburg.

If you are traveling this summer you should safeguard yourself and your family by ensuring that you and your children’s immunizations are up-to-date. Even if you are not traveling for the upcoming holidays, it is still good to get vaccination or at least check to see if you are up to date with the aforementioned.

GREAT BAY, St. Maarten ( Thursday, May 17, 2012)-The lecture that was organized by the New Testament Baptist Church last week Tuesday, May 8th 2012 was very successful and insightful for the many persons who came out to the lecture.
The lecture was very well attended and those present got the opportunity to ask questions about the tax system or about their personal issues.
In her opening remarks, the tax inspector, Drs. Maria Bass, commended the New Testament Baptist Church and Pastor Smith for the initiative taken to organize a lecture on this topic at this time. In her lecture, she clarified several issues concerning the tax system that were brought to her attention during the discussion.

CAY HILL, St. Maarten (Thursday, May 17, 2012)- AVS News conducted an in depth interview with Pediatrician, Dr. Pieter Offringa last Friday at his office at the St. Maarten Medical Center regarding vaccinations which is in line with world vaccination day observed on May 19th. Dr. Offiringa said during the interview that “getting one or more injections so that you don’t get a disease is called vaccination”. “when you get injected, your immune system reacts on that as if your body knows the infection, so you can’t get it again’.
